johann_veruschka_04Johann and Veruschka de Wet have found the ideal location to pursue their lives as busy CAs, all the while ensuring that their young son is happy and safe.

Johann explains, “Veruschka and I are both passionate about our careers. If we couldn’t find a home where our son to walk to school and enjoy the freedom of the outdoors, one of us would have had to sacrifice career ambitions to make sure we could spend some days at home to attend to logistical parenthood responsibilities. We then came across Waterfall Country Estate, which fits our needs perfectly – it’s within a 15km radius of our offices, the security is top class and the school is within 200 metres of our home. Add to this the facilities on the Estate and we have an ideal place to live.”

The de Wets bought their stand in April 2012 and moved in by October 2013. Johann has nothing but praise for his architect Bruce Dickson from Down to Earth Architects, who packaged their ideas for a relaxed, friendly home into something that they enjoy tremendously and suits their lifestyle perfectly. In terms of construction, Jason Henning from Henning Construction did a splendid job and the project was completed six weeks early with no glitches, something that just does not happen these days.

The accommodation in the de Wets’ home includes a large entertainment space featuring a 20-seater dining table and spacious braai and outdoor boma area, a downstairs guest suite, pyjama lounge linked to the bedrooms upstairs, spacious staff quarters and a ‘during the week’ living area with open plan kitchen and living area.

Energy-saving features in the home include geysers which are either gas or solar-powered and the pool is also solar heated. There is a rain water harvesting system which goes through a filtration and sterilization process to be fit for their own consumption as well as a 2000 litre back-up water storage facility in case of water outages. “During the summer we were off the grid for about six weeks,” remarks Johann.

“Another thing we enjoy about living at Waterfall is the access to the many activities, which we use on a regular basis. We visit the gym, exercise on the walking paths and take advantage of the restaurant in the clubhouse. Of course, the recent opening of Waterfall Corner has also proved to be a boon for us,” he says.

In true community style, the de Wets socialise with other families on the Estate, sharing braais and children’s birthday parties. “The neighbourly atmosphere is reminiscent of days gone by; we truly enjoy our lives at Waterfall Country Estate,” says Johann.
